What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is all about stillness and introspection. Yin yoga was created as a means of balancing the more "yang" style yoga practices. Yin offers time and space for gravity to guide us into the fullest expression of each pose. Using props such a pillows, bolsters, blankets and yoga blocks we create for ourselves a strong (yet comfy) foundation to fully relax into each pose without risk of injury.

Yin yoga is NOT about stretching the belly of each muscle like your tradition yoga and stretching modalities are. Instead yin yoga is practiced with COLD muscles because we are gently stretching the connective tissues. Allowing for safe lengthening of tendons/ligaments and fascia release as well as providing lubrication to joints. We do this by holding stillness in each pose for 2-5mins. Focusing on breath work and mind-body connection.

ANYONE can practice yin yoga, this is why we use props to ensure we are safely moving in and out of each posture.

Benefits of yin yoga consist of...

  • calms and balances the mind and body

  • reduces stress and anxiety

  • increases circulation

  • improves flexibility

  • releases fascia and improves joint mobility

  • promotes joint health

  • balances the internal organs

  • balances a yang lifestyle: people oriented, fast-paced, athletic, weight training, fast thinkers, etc..
